Kimi K Guffey APRN BC-FNP is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner who specializes in treating patients of all ages by offering comprehensive primary care. Kimi started in the medical field in 1991 as a medical assistant, while raising her daughters she decided to pursue her higher education, graduating with her Associates in Nursing degree in 2002, while she was pursuing her bachelor’s, master’s degree and family nurse practitioner certificate, she was working full-time in high-risk labor and delivery helping women and their families' welcome new lives into this world. Graduating in December 2009, from Austin Peay University in Clarksville, Tennessee, Kimi started working immediately in an internal medicine practice. In July 2011 she relocated to Central Florida with her family. Working in Orlando and the surrounding areas, Kimi continued to work as a family nurse practitioner in an outpatient and retail setting. In 2015 Kimi started working for a large healthcare system as an inpatient NP for a large Hospitalist group. As a hospitalist nurse practitioner, Kimi cared for patients who were acutely ill requiring inpatient treatment. With 11+ years as a Nurse Practitioner and 30 years in medicine for both outpatient and inpatient settings, Kimi and her family decided it was time to pursue her own family practice.
We are pleased to have Dr. James L. Willis D. O. as Best Practice Family Care’s collaborating physician. Dr. Willis is a board-certified family physician who practices currently as a hospitalist. Dr. Willis attended Des Moines University and graduated with his Doctor of Osteopathic medicine in 1998. Then finishing his residency at Creighton University in Omaha Nebraska, he joined the Air Force serving on active duty from 2001-2004. After serving in the Air Force he started in private practice until becoming a hospitalist in 2009 where he currently practices. Dr. Willis is an integral part of our practice and will be working as a collaborating physician. As Best Practice Family Care’s collaborating physician Dr. Willis is available for any questions or concerns that that Kimi may have and will be reviewing a percentage of charts as mandated by the State of Tennessee board of Nursing. He also will be making site visits monthly. Dr. Willis will NOT be seeing patients. He is only practicing in an advisory, collaborating role. Kimi and Dr. Willis have been working together in an in-patient setting since 2015. When Kimi decided to open a practice of her own he wanted to continue to support her and has agreed to stay on as Best Practice Family Care’s collaborating physician.
Born David “Scott” Guffey, raised in Athens Tennessee, Scott is an Army Veteran spending 17+ years in the Army. Medically retiring in 2006, he is now coming out of retirement to assist his wife Kimi in making her dreams a reality by opening a medical practice. Scott’s military career started in infantry initially then advancing to computer programming, recruiting, and eventually human resource for a brigade. In 2015 Scott was diagnosed with colon cancer and a condition called Lynch Syndrome which makes him susceptible to GI and GU cancers. Scott has successfully fought off colon and small intestine cancer 3 times in the past 5 years. Having to navigate the healthcare system after having to dealing with cancer and multiple hospitalizations and medical office visits, Scott has a unique perspective on what good and bad healthcare looks like. He has come out of retirement to help build a family practice that genuinely cares about it is patients.
Haley has always been very passionate about helping others. This is what led her to began working in healthcare in 2004 as a CNA. Haley graduated from Tennessee College of Applied Technology in 2007 as a practical nurse. Since becoming a practical nurse Haley has worked in labor and delivery, blood and plasma donation, addiction medicine and family medicine. During her free time she enjoys gardening, hiking, camping and cooking. Haley also enjoys spending time with her family and pets.
